I did it! I passed the CPA REG Exam! This was the 3rd of 4 exams and I passed with an 82 on the first try; my best result out of the 3 with the first two meeting the 75 minimum threshold on the 2nd and 3rd attempts.

As mentioned in the last post, I completed right at the end of the 4 allotted hours and the next day headed to Vancouver and an Alaskan Cruise with 2 days near Denali. We had a great time and I was eating and drinking everything for the whole trip while anxiously awaiting the scores.

I did start TCP, Tax Compliance and Planning studies while sitting on the bike and near the spas on the cruise but really started the day I got back. I also put on 7+ pounds so started back at getting fit and healthy again. I live in extremes, but isn’t that the CPA as well?

Woke up to a white out in Denali NP, Alaska

I took 5 months studying 1-6+ hours everyday, working 40hours full time as a Senior Finance Manager at Raytheon, and was swim/bike/run up to 12hrs per week. I cultivated my studying so that I watched 100% of the videos taking lots of notes, taking MCQ till I got 100%, took all TBS till I got an 80%, took daily quizzes while reading the answers via my notes, taking the full Final Prep, 3 Simultated Exams at 4hrs long, and finally made a 6 page “cheat sheet” that summarized nearly everything to 1 section to 1 front side page to mini font. I cramed 4hrs before the exam and took the exam at 1230. This is what helped me pass the last 2 exams.
TCP is the “easiest” of the exams and content I like. It’s also 66% less content and I have less than 2 months to my July 27th date vs the 5-6 months of the past.
I am giving it my all for body, mind, and spirit. I have been waking up 5am most days with swim Tu/TH and lift M,W,F. Double sessions with run M/Tu/Th/F/Sa/Su. This has seen my weight drop from 199.2 to 192. I also hit 37.2miles of run, biggest since Decembers Tucson Marathon. But quite tired today and cut the 10m run to 7.
For mind, I haven’t had any alcohol in 15 days as well. My sleep score is raising back to 80s to 90s, Resting HR is dropping from high 50s to low 40s, and HRV increasing to balanced too. I am trying to get to 180lbs again.
This all sets me up for my next race and I hope you will support me. I will be going to Boston with work and running in 9KM Run to Homebase which finishes on the home base at Fenway Park. This will be 2 days before my exam but shows the sacrifice I am putting in support of our servicemen and their families dealing with invisible wounds. Please support them! https://runtohomebase.org/participants/KevinPatrickCoyle I am trying to raise a minimum of $300.
And now since I am almost a CPA, in 2026, Charity is back as a Standard Deduction as an adjustment to AGI. Single can give $1000 and MFG can give $2000. So it’s like getting part rebate from the IRS for a great cause!
Man, the CPA is NO JOKE. This will be my greatest accomplishment when I pass this thing July 27th. Please subscribe to my page from the left hand side (I am not a paid influencer, I do this to share, inspire, grow, and recall). Find me on LinkedIn for a Referral link to RTX.
I got this.
